Former 49er Reed punctuates revenge game with Jimmy G pick

Matt Maiocco says that rookie Brandon Aiyuk has emerged as the 49ers No. 1 wide receiver and will be relied upon heavily vs. the Seahawks with Deebo Samuel out indefinitely.

The 49ers waived defensive back D.J. Reed in early August with a non-football injury designation. He was claimed off waivers by the Seattle Seahawks just a day later, and exacted some revenge early in his first game against San Francisco this season by intercepting Jimmy Garoppolo in the first quarter.

Reed was a fifth-round pick of the 49ers in 2018, and made 54 tackles to go along with a pair of pass defelections and forced fumbles in 31 games for the 49ers.

Sunday was his first game of the season after tearing his pectoral muscle back in July. Reed was activated this week as Seattle deals with a myriad of injuries in the secondary.

The interception of Garoppolo is Reed's first career NFL pick.
