49ers inactives: Marquise Goodwin healthy scratch for SNF vs. Packers

SANTA CLARA -- 49ers wide receiver Marquise Goodwin is a surprise healthy scratch Sunday night for San Francisco's showdown against the Green Bay Packers.

Goodwin has been unable to match the productivity that he showed in 2017, when he nearly had a 1,000-yard receiving season for the 49ers. He has just 12 catches on 21 targets for 186 yards in eight games this season.

With Deebo Samuel and Emmanuel Sanders returning against the Packers, the 49ers needed to make one of their wide receivers inactive. The likely choice was between Goodwin, Dante Pettis and Richie James.

James' special-teams play makes him a necessary part of the active 46 players. He has been returning both punts and kickoffs productively all season. Though Pettis has experience there, the 49ers continue to go with James.

With Goodwin being a healthy scratch again, his future with the team definitely is uncertain.
