Brandon Belt will be called up to the Giants as part of a roster shuffle following the Wednesday night injury to catcher Buster Posey. He will be in uniform for Thursday's game with Florida.

The rookie first baseman confirmed to CSNBayArea.com that he was in San Jose and en route to join the big club.

To make room on 40-man roster for Chris Stewart and Brandon Crawford, the Giants designated Ryan Rohlinger and Henry Sosa for assignment. Stewart will step in as a backup catcher, Crawford provides infield depth after Mike Fontenot strained a groin Wednesday.

Crawford is the organization's top shortstop prospect.

In 132 plate appearances at Fresno, Belt is hitting .337, with four homers and three steals.

Belt made the Opening Day roster in large part due to the calf injury that sidelined Cody Ross to start the season. He singled in his big league debut and homered in the opening series at Dodger Stadium. But he was sent down in late April after he hit .192 with two extra-base hits in 52 at-bats.

Stewart was signed in January to a minor-league deal. He played in two games for the Padres last season but he didnt get any at bats. Stewart has appeared in 33 games for Fresno this season, hitting .221 with 10 RBIs.
