Buddy Hield now is the most prolific 3-point shooter in Kings history after he broke a tie with Peja Stojakovic on Friday night.
Buddy Hield needed six 3-pointers in the 2020-21 NBA season finale against the Utah Jazz to break Peja Stojakovic's franchise record for 3-pointers, but he made only one, and after an offseason full of trade speculation, there was a chance Hield would never get the record.
But Hield remained with the Kings after a reported trade with the Los Angeles Lakers fell through, and in the 2021-22 NBA season opener against the Portland Trail Blazers at the Moda Center on Wednesday night, the sharpshooter knocked down four more to tie the record.

Hield then entered Friday's game against the Utah Jazz at Golden 1 Center needing just one more 3-pointer to break Stojakovic's franchise record (1,070), and he hit the record-breaker late in the first quarter.
While Stojakovic hit his 1,070 3-pointers in 518 games with the Kings, Hield got there in his 332nd game with Sacramento. In this era where teams jack up 3-pointers, it's not surprising the record fell so quickly.
This is the second significant 3-point record Hield has taken from Stojakovic. In 2018-19, Hield made 278 3-pointers, breaking Stojakovic's single-season Kings record of 240 in 2003-04. Hield raised the bar two seasons later by making 282 3-pointers.

Hield has been a starter for a majority of his time in Sacramento, but this season, he likely will come off the bench. He might not break his own single-season franchise record, but Hield will continue to add to his all-time record and put it out of reach for anyone coming after him.
Stojakovic is the most revered shooter in Kings history, but Hield now is the most prolific.
