Report: Warriors have ‘internally discussed' Dame trade

Grant Liffmann and Kendra Andrews explore the Warriors’ reported interest in Damian Lillard and whether the team would sacrifice their entire future to bring the Oakland-native back to the Bay.

There is a chance Damian Lillard demands a trade from the Portland Trail Blazers this offseason.

It still would be surprising, however, if the six-time NBA All-Star chooses that path.

But if he does, would the Warriors attempt to acquire the Oakland native?

"Yes. They’d make a call and have already internally discussed the idea, as I’m sure most contenders have, considering the rising smoke out of Portland," The Athletic's Anthony Slater writes.

It isn't a surprise whatsoever that Golden State's front office has talked about a potential blockbuster deal.

Going over these type of scenarios simply is part of the job and a necessary thought exercise. You have to be prepared in case someone of Lillard's caliber actually becomes available.

Then again, even if Dame does request a change of scenery, it's possible he is not very interested in joining the Dubs.

"Would he want to come to San Francisco — not his hometown of Oakland anymore — and serve as a backcourt 1B to Steph Curry? My sense is no," Slater writes.

Lillard -- who is about to start a four-year, $176.3 million contract -- currently is teammates with Draymond Green on the USA Basketball squad competing in the Tokyo Olympics this summer.

The soon-to-be 31-year-old averaged 34.3 points and 10.2 assists in the Blazers' first-round NBA playoff series loss to the Denver Nuggets this year.
