Dubs reserves deliver big dunks, ‘great energy' vs. Kings

Dwayne Sutton and Damion Lee each had nice dunks in the Warriors’ 114-113 loss to the Kings on Tuesday in their second preseason game. Coach Steve Kerr was pleased by his bench’s energy in the loss.

Tuesday night’s contest for Steve Kerr and the Warriors ended on a sour note, with Kyle Guy knocking down a 3-pointer at the buzzer to send the Kings to a 114-113 preseason victory.

But just minutes before, Kerr was busy punching associate head coach Mike Brown in the ribs on the sideline after watching Dwayne Sutton throw down a thunderous dunk in transition.

"I thought they brought great energy, the reserve unit [in the] late third, early fourth [quarters] and to close the game,” Kerr said in a video conference with reporters after the game. “Those guys came in and did a fantastic job."

That wasn’t the only noteworthy Warriors slam in the fourth quarter. Damion Lee also delivered a nice dunk on the fast break after a nifty assist from rookie Nico Mannion, before having a little fun with his teammates to celebrate.

The Dubs were focused on development and team chemistry heading into the game, so they should be encouraged to see some high-energy plays from bench players in the game’s final moments. Golden State outscored Sacramento by 14 in the second half but couldn’t overcome the 37-20 advantage the Kings carved out in the second quarter.

Steph Curry led all scorers with 29 points, while Marquese Chriss (17 points) and Brad Wanamaker (10 points) scored double-digits off the bench for the Warriors. Golden State will get a shot at revenge and one last preseason look at its reserves in Thursday’s exhibition against the Kings.
