The last time the Giants played the Tigers…

The Giants and Tigers did not play each other during the 2012 regular season, but they did meet for a three-game series at Comerica Park in July 2011. Here is a reminder of how that series played out:
July 1: Giants 4, Tigers 3
In a wild game, Magglio Ordonez tied it at 1-1 with a two-out single off Brian Wilson in the bottom of the eighth. But the Giants answered with three runs in the top of the ninth, highlighted by Pablo Sandoval's RBI double off Jose Valverde. However, Wilson then got into trouble in the bottom half, giving up a pair of runs before Brennan Boesch lined into a game-ending double play. Aaron Rowand finished with three hits and two runs for the Giants, and Sandoval, Nate Schierholtz and Cody Ross added two hits apiece. Madison Bumgarner gave up one run in 7 13 innings, while ex-Giant Brad Penny limited San Francisco to one run over seven frames.
July 2: Giants 15, Tigers 3
The Giants scored five runs in the first inning, another five runs in the third, and five more over the fifth and sixth innings. San Francisco got a two-run homer from Pablo Sandoval, a three-run shot from Brandon Crawford and a grand slam from Miguel Tejada. The bulk of the damage came against Tigers starter Max Scherzer (nine runs - six earned - in two-plus innings). The Giants' offensive display overshadowed six shutout innings by Barry Zito. Guillermo Mota worked the final three innings, allowing homers to Jhonny Peralta and Brennan Bosch.
July 3: Tigers 6, Giants 3
The Giants led 3-1 heading into the bottom of the sixth before things fell apart. An error by Cody Ross allowed Detroit to score a run in the sixth, and Miguel Tejada's throwing error plated a couple more runs in the seventh. The Giants brought the tying run to the plate against Jose Valverde in the ninth before the Detroit closer retired Ross and Nate Schierholtz to end it. Ryan Vogelsong allowed three runs in 6 23 innings, while Rick Porcello picked up the win by yielding three runs over seven frames.
