Kurt Bevacqua joined Jessica Kleinschmidt on the Balk Talk podcast to discuss whether or not former Giants skipper Bruce Bochy has managed his last game.
At San Diego State, Casey Schmitt was a two-way star, which lined up perfectly for what Giants president of baseball operations Farhan Zaidi is looking for. He likes having his players with the ability to move around the field.
Schmitt, who the Giants took with the No. 49 overall pick in the 2020 MLB Draft, recently was named the best defensive prospect in the organization by MLB.com.
“He moves well at the hot corner and has soft hands and an easy plus arm that produced fastballs up to 96 mph and devastating splitters in college,” analysts Jim Callis, Jonathan Mayo and Mike Rosenbaum wrote.

Schmitt has said he’s open to playing wherever he’s needed, but did mention playing third base a few times. He was a closer a San Diego State, so he didn't rule out pitching at some point.

Schmitt also has power at the plate, finishing 11th overall in the Mountain West in batting average (.323) and had a respectable .386 on-base percentage in 2020 with the Aztecs.
As far as his pitching went, he posted a 3.75 ERA with 10 strikeouts in 12 innings last season and had 23 career saves in three collegiate seasons.
