The first woman to hold a position on a major-league staff, Alyssa Nakken, served as the first base coach for the final two innings of Monday’s game.

Giants bench coach Alyssa Nakken made history on Opening Day this season.

She became the first female full-time coach in MLB, and even coached first base for the Giants during an exhibition game at Oracle Park just a few days before the opener in Los Angeles.

Fittingly, Nakken’s jersey from that game at Dodger Stadium now occupies a display at the Baseball Hall of Fame in Cooperstown, N.Y.

A former Sacramento State softball player, Nakken joined the organization as a baseball operations intern in 2014. After manager Gabe Kapler was tapped to replace Bruce Bochy after the 2019 season, he included Nakken on his first coaching staff.
