In a flurry of late activity, the A’s added Trevor Rosenthal, Sergio Romo and Mitch Moreland to their team for the 2021 season. Listen to Jessica Kleinschmidt break down what each of these additions can add.

The A's officially have signed first baseman/DH Mitch Moreland to a one-year contract, the team announced Tuesday. Pitcher Paul Blackburn has been designated for assignment in a corresponding move.

Blackburn, 27, made his MLB debut with the A's in 2017. He went 3-1 and had a 3.22 ERA over 10 starts as a rookie, but hasn't found much success since. He had a 7.16 ERA in 2018, 10.64 ERA in 2019 and allowed seven earned runs over 2 1/3 innings in his only appearance last season.

Over 21 appearances -- 18 starts -- with the A's, he has a 5-7 record and 5.69 ERA in his four-year MLB career.

The A's acquired Blackburn from the Seattle Mariners in November 2016 for Danny Valencia. He was selected in the first round (56th overall) of the 2012 MLB Draft by the Chicago Cubs out of Heritage High School in Brentwood.
