The Giants defeated the Dodgers 3-1 on Sunday to earn a split of the opening series of the 2020 MLB season. Drew Smyly started for San Francisco in the win and Darin Ruf went 2-for-4 with one run scored and one RBI.

Life was easy for Darin Ruf when he played first base for the Giants for the first five innings Sunday night in Los Angeles.

Then things got dangerous for Ruf in the bottom of the sixth inning against the Dodgers.

Giants manager Gabe Kapler made several defensive changes in the sixth inning and moved Ruf from first base to left field.

The ball instantly found Ruf, who tracked down a Corey Seager fly ball and crashed into the Dodgers' bullpen gate. The gate lost the battle against the 232-pound Ruf.

The reaction to Ruf going through the bullpen gate was amazing.

Left field at Dodger Stadium has been treacherous for the Giants this weekend. On Saturday, Austin Slater made a catch and slammed into the wall. He suffered a hip contusion and wasn't in the lineup Sunday night.

Luckily for the Giants, Ruf wasn't hurt, although we can't say the same for the bullpen gate.
