Most abbreviations in baseball make sense.
HR stands for home run. RBI stands for runs batted in. ERA stands for earned run average.

But the letter "K" standing for strikeout? That one is a little harder to understand.
Baseball historian David Feldman spoke to NBC Sports Bay Area, and explains that the odd abbreviation dates back to the 1860's and a man named Henry Chadwick.
