ANAHEIM -- A's left fielder Yoenis Cespedes was forced to leave Thursday's game against the Angels early after spraining his right wrist while sliding into second base.
Cespedes reached base with a walk in the top of the fourth inning. He slid hard into second base and collided with Angels' shortstop Erick Aybar on an inning-ending double play. After the collision Aybar and Cespedes appeared to briefly exchange civil words and check on each other. It looked like Cespedes was inadvertently elbowed in the head. He planted his right wrist on the slide but didn't appear to jam it. He winced in pain as he ran off the field.
The A's took Cespedes out of the game tn the bottom of the fifth inning. They shifted Brandon Moss to left field and Chris Carter took Moss' spot at first base. The A's are 70-38 with Cespedes in the starting lineup and 12-22 when he doesn't play. He hit home runs in each of his last two games.
