Quakes notes: Wondo's call-up; big win in L.A.

-Chris Wondolowski has made the U.S. Mens National Team for the ever important World Cup Qualifying matches coming up in the next few weeks. Even though he misses games, this really benefits the Quakes as he comes back a more dynamic player every time he goes to the camp because they demand more out of him. -What a difference a year makes. Last year against the Galaxy, the Quakes gain a man advantage and in the process face a position player in goal who hasnt been a keeper since early high school and proceed to get shut out. This year, the Quakes fall behind 2-0 and roar back for an amazing victory.-One difference I noticed with the Galaxy over the previous couple of years is that their defense was not as big physically as it has been. Some of this is due to injury, but the guys they had out there just couldnt handle Alan Gordon on the game winner.-Speaking of large defensemen, Victor Bernardez who has been out since the April 14th match with NY Red Bulls, has been called to the Honduran national team. His national team duty is a great way to get him into game shape so he is ready to go when he gets back. It is not a coincidence that the Quakes have not had a shut out since his injury. They are a much better team with him in there.-Wednesday nights victory in LA was terrific, and Im sure unforgettable for those Quakes fans that made the trip to Home Depot Center. The Ultras (the Quakes supporter section) crushed it. You could hear them all night long, even down 2-0. -Sunday afternoon on NBC Sports Network (formerly Versus) the Quakes take on Sporting KC. Not only does Kansas City have the nicest stadium in the league, they also have two former Quakes in Bobby Convey and Kei Kamara playing important roles. After Conveys fallout with Earthquakes coach Frank Yallop, Im sure hes looking forward to having an impact on the match. Kamara is leading Sporting KC in goals with 4 and has two assists to go with them. He has really matured since his days with the Quakes four years ago.
