Sharks defenseman Schlemko skates for first time since injury

SAN JOSE – Sharks defenseman David Schlemko was spotted on the ice Sunday for the first time since suffering a lower body injury on March 2.

The 29-year-old skated lightly without pads, and there is still no timetable for him to return.

Schlemko went with the Sharks on a two-game road trip to Minnesota and Winnipeg on March 5-6, and the indications were that his injury wouldn’t keep him out long. Sunday’s game against Dallas, though, will be the fifth in a row that he won’t dress.

When asked if the injury was more serious than originally believed, coach Pete DeBoer said: “Probably a little longer than I thought, but I wouldn’t call it serious.”

In 51 games, Schlemko has two goals and 13 assists for 15 points and a plus-eight rating.

Melker Karlsson will also miss Sunday’s game with what DeBoer called a lower body injury. No further details were given on the forward, who finished Saturday's game against Nashville but did not skate on Sunday morning.

Rookie Marcus Sorensen will dress against the Stars. In six career games, all this season, the 24-year-old has two points (1g, 1a).
