The Sharks teased their "reverse retro" sweaters in a cryptic Twitter video Tuesday, seemingly dropping hints about the look of their upcoming fourth jersey.
The video, as well as the NHL's, confirmed the long-rumored existence of special throwback sweaters that will feature inverted color schemes, hence the name "reverse retro." Sources initially described to Icethetics' Chris Smith that the jerseys would be "throwbacks with a twist."

Sharks president Jonathan Becher tweeted last month that none of the rumored San Jose concepts circulating online were real. This tease, with Adidas branding and all, gives us the best idea of what the sweater will look like. The number on the back could even offer a major clue about its design.
Could the "98" on the back signify the year in which the Sharks first wore the design? If so, then perhaps San Jose will wear a modified version of it second teal sweater next season. Originally introduced as an alternate during the 1997-98 season (hence the "98"), the Sharks began wearing it as one of two primary sweaters the following campaign.
Forgive me from going "Charlie Kelly in a mailroom" on you, but I can't imagine it's a coincidence the Sharks first wore the design as an alternate in a season ending in 1998 and then as a primary sweater in a season beginning in 1998.

As for the twist, it surely can't be a coincidence that gray is the predominant color in the video and teal is used as an accent. After all, that's the ... reverse ... of the Sharks' ... retro ... sweater in question.

It's too early to see whether or not this onion has been peeled back all the way, but it won't be long until the Sharks release an official look at the uniform. Adidas Hockey simply tweeted "Coming Soon" alongside the hashtag #ReverseRetro on Tuesday morning.
