The Sharks' lack of scoring has been an issue for the last handful of seasons and general manager Mike Grier and coach David Quinn are working to change that.
Speaking with NBC Sports California's Brodie Brazil, Grier explained what he believes the Sharks have to do to remedy the lack of offense in recent seasons.
"I think it's a little bit of everything," Grier said. "It's the players, it's on me, on the roster, the players, the coaches.

"It's kind of on us all to try and keep evolving this thing and become a little bit better offensively and be able to create offense at a higher rate."
Grier, the former winger, knows a thing or two about evolving and scoring goals. In his 14-year career, Grier scored 162 total goals, scoring 15 or more in five of those seasons.
Furthermore, Brazil also spoke to Quinn, the Sharks' new coach, about San Jose's scoring woes to which the latter said it is about consistency and working to be a better player.
"As I've said before, we're just looking for guys to improve incrementally," Quinn told Brazil. "Whether it be five percent or 10 percent throughout the course of the season and if you get a guy who scored five goals last year and all of a sudden he scores eight or 10, there's a jump up."

Quinn notes that while the team gladly will accept it if a player can increase his goal total from five to 40, he and the rest of the coaching staff know that is not impossible.
That is why he expects the team to continue to strive to be great in other ways.
"But if everybody can just be a little bit better, I think obviously you're more productive offensively and that's where your goals increase will come from," Quinn concluded.
Although Grier and Quinn have said they want to improve the offense, it appears that there is a lot more work to be done.
As it stands, the Sharks have been outscored 19-8 in the first five games of the 2022-23 NHL season. Conversely, the Sharks are off to their worst start in franchise history, going winless in five games.
Despite a rough start to the season, Quinn has reiterated that he believes in the current group of players and expects them to turn things around sooner rather than later.

With Stanley Cup winner Nico Sturm also providing veteran leadership by not mincing words amid the Sharks' current losing streak, perhaps that lights a fire under the players.
That said, if the Sharks are hoping to things around in a hurry, scoring goals would be a good place to start.
