New back-up goalie Reimer to meet Sharks in Vancouver

SAN JOSE – Goalie James Reimer, acquired on Sunday from Toronto, will meet the Sharks on Wednesday night in Vancouver according to coach Pete DeBoer.

It will be Martin Jones in net against the Canucks on Thursday, though.

“We’re going to play Jonesy tomorrow,” DeBoer said. “We’ll get [Reimer] a good day with us on the ice tomorrow morning, and then another practice day, and we’ll see about the weekend.”

The Sharks host Vancouver on Saturday, and play a back-to-back in Calgary and Edmonton next Monday and Tuesday.

Jones will be making his 10th straight start for the Sharks, looking for another victory in what has been a successful first season so far as a full-time starter. He’s tied for third in the league in wins with 31, and in his last 21 starts since Jan. 9, he’s 15-4-2 with a 2.07 goals-against average and .925 save percentage.

On the road, Jones is 20-6-3 with a 2.26 GAA and .922 SP. He made 23 saves in a 4-1 win in Vancouver on Sunday.

The Sharks remain without Tommy Wingels, who has missed the last five games with a sprained left shoulder. Wingels was one of only a few Sharks to skate on Wednesday, as most of the team stayed off of the ice for a second straight day. The Sharks held a team meeting before boarding their flight to British Columbia.

“Getting better, progressing, but not ready to play,” DeBoer said.

Matt Tennyson, who suffered an apparent head injury on Feb. 22 in St. Louis, has not started skating yet.

The Sharks are carrying just 12 healthy forwards and six blueliners, after reassigning seventh defenseman Dylan DeMelo to the Barracuda earlier in the week.

“Like everybody this time of year, we’re dealing some minor bumps and bruises and scrapes and things,” DeBoer said. “That’s something that we’ll just monitor day-to-day. We’ve got some good depth down below that we can use, and I’m sure you’ll see some of that.”
