The San Jose Sharks have placed defenseman Douglas Murray on injured reserve, and have also recalled defenseman Matt Irwin from Worcester, the team announced on Sunday.
Murray has missed the last three games with an injured right hand, that he presumably hurt blocking a shot on Dec. 3 against Florida. In 23 games this season, the 6-3, 240-pound Murray has three assists and 19 penalty minutes.
In 21 games with the Worcester Sharks, the 24-year-old Irwin is second on the team with 16 points (7g, 9a).
