BOX SCORE

PHILADELPHIA -– Melker Karlsson scored in overtime, the only goal of the night, as the Sharks beat the Flyers at Wells Fargo Center on Thursday night, 1-0.

Karlsson took a pass from Joonas Donskoi and beat Steve Mason high with 1:15 to go in the extra session as the Sharks remained perfect on their road trip (4-0-0).

Jones improved to 10-5-0, notching his third shutout with 34 saves.

Prior to the winner, the Sharks squandered a power play opportunity that carried over into overtime. Wayne Simmonds was whistled for tripping Matt Nieto with just 19 seconds left in regulation, but San Jose couldn’t solve Mason, who held the line on Patrick Marleau in front of the net with 3:38 left in extra time.

The Sharks were the better team in the first period, and nearly scored on the first shift. Mason misplayed a dump-in off the glass, but Luke Schenn got his leg in front of Joe Pavelski’s shot towards the empty net just eight seconds after puck drop.

Justin Braun had a chance six minutes into the game on a nice setup by Joel Ward, while Jones made his biggest stop of the opening frame with 3:22 to go, sealing his five-hole on a Michael Raffl breakaway.

Two ways Sharks can make long-term progress before end of season

Warsofsky happy with Sharks' effort despite loss to Canadiens

Philadelphia controlled the second period, but Jones stopped every one of the 15 shots directed his way. He gloved a Brayden Schenn slapper on a Flyers power play midway through regulation to keep it scoreless.

Braun had another chance in the second, but his shot from the circle rang off of the outside of the post with 2:23 to go.

In the third period, Jones denied snake-bitten Flyers forward Jakub Voracek on the doorstep after the Flyers forward got open in the slot with 2:43 to go.

The Flyers outshot the Sharks for the game, 34-21, as San Jose went one stretch of more than 13 minutes without a shot on goal in the second period. Brent Burns had eight shots.

San Jose has won its last eight games at Wells Fargo Center, and is 15-1-2 in its last 18 games overall against the Flyers. The Flyers make their only visit to SAP Center on Dec. 30.
