Ferriero reportedly signs with Penguins

The Pittsburgh Penguins have signed former Sharks forward Benn Ferriero to a one-year, two-way contract, according to the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette. It would be worth a reported 700,000 at the NHL level.

The 25-year-old Boston native had seven goals and one assist for eight points with the Sharks last season. In 92 career NHL games over three seasons, all with the Sharks, Ferriero had 14 goals and eight assists for 22 points.

A restricted free agent at the end of 2011-12, Ferriero was not tendered a qualifying offer by the Sharks, thereby allowing him to sign with any club.

His most significant moment as a member of the Sharks came in the 2011 Western Conference semifinal with the Red Wings, when his overtime goal gave San Jose a 2-1 victory.
