Gustav Nyquist hadn’t even practiced with the San Jose Sharks yet when one of his new teammates gave him a helping hand.
Sharks’ defenseman Erik Karlsson posted to his Instagram account on Tuesday morning that he picked up his fellow Swede and newest teammate from the airport ahead of Team Teal’s rematch in Boston with the Bruins.

The gesture is, as many Sharks’ fans know, a kind gesture extended to new members of the team. Last season, when Evander Kane was acquired by the Sharks at the trade deadline, Joe Thornton fetched him from the airport. Kane said afterward how much of an impression it made on him that Thornton was there to drive him – especially considering Thornton was dealing with a knee injury.
“Him picking me up at the airport with a bum knee, I mean, it just shows the guys he is and the type of leader he is and how much he cares about the team having success,” Kane recalled to The Athletic back in September. “We talked a lot about San Jose, there’s not really a more knowledgeable guy about the area, whether it’s on or off the ice.”
As for where Nyquist resides when he first comes to San Jose later this week remains to be seen. But it’s definitely a possibility one of his teammates in teal will offer a helping hand, given their track record of generosity. Tomas Hertl told NBC Sports California back in December that rookie defenseman and fellow Czech skater Radim Simek stayed at his house when first signed to the Sharks.
Nyquist may have just joined the team, but he's clearly in very good hands.
