Columbus Blue Jackets forward Jared Boll was fined 2,500 by the NHL, the maximum allowed under the Collective Bargaining Agreement, for his hit to the head of the Sharks' Joe Thornton in Tuesday's game at HP Pavilion. The Sharks won, 6-0.
Just 20 seconds into the game, Boll delivered a high hit to the Sharks' captain and was issued a minor penalty.
It was the second such incident in as many games between the Sharks and Blue Jackets, as Columbus' Dane Byers was issued a three-game suspension for his illegal hit on Andrew Desjardins during a game at Nationwide Arena on Jan. 14. Desjardins suffered a concussion on the play, causing him to miss two games.
