UFA WR Jones: ‘Would love to stay home, Niners or Raiders'

James Jones was released this week by the Chargers as the team worked to get down to the final 53-man roster.

But the 32-year-old veteran receiver is looking to continue his NFL career, and as a Santa Clara native, Jones would like to stay in the Bay Area.

“I still enjoy it. I still love it, so I don't really have a team I would love to go to. I mean, the Bay Area. That's where I live, I would love to stay home, Niners or Raiders, something like that, stay local," Jones on Wednesday told Bruce Murray and Brady Quinn on SiriusXM Blitz.

“At the end of the day, man, I just want to play some football . . . I just want to play. I’m still excited about the game," he added. "I still believe I can help a football team win.”

Jones spent the first seven seasons of his pro career with the Green Bay Packers, where he won a Super Bowl in 2010 and led the league in touchdown receptions with 14 in 2012.

Jones in 2014 joined the Oakland Raiders, playing in all 16 games, while starting 10. He finished with 73 receptions on 112 targets, racking up 666 yards and six touchdowns.
