Trent Williams updates Twitter, Instagram after 49ers trade for him

Well, that didn’t take long.

The 49ers acquired Trent Williams in a trade Saturday, and the seven-time Pro Bowl tackle has already updated his social media to prove it.

His Twitter account already has his bio saying he’s an offensive tackle for San Francisco with his location listed as “Santa Clara.” The profile pic and cover photo are of him Photoshopped in a 49ers uniform.

That’s no different for his Instagram, either. He’s sporting the red in gold in his profile photo on that as well.

Once it’s social media official, it’s really official. Them's the rules.

Williams comes to the 49ers from Washington in exchange for two draft picks. A fifth-round pick in the 2020 draft and one in the third-round during next year’s draft. The 31-year-old spent the entirety of his career with the team and has played in every game at tackle since his career began with the league in 2010.

However, he didn’t play last season after being placed on the non-football injury football list. Part of that was due to a cancerous growth on his scalp. He also made it well-known last summer he wanted to be traded after a tumultuous relationship with Washington’s former team president Bruce Allen.

There was also a money issue. Isn’t there always?

Still, it does appear this is happy news for both sides of the trade.

49ers’ long-time tackle Joe Staley announced his retirement on Saturday after 13 seasons in the game. He battled many injuries and missed nine games last season which had his return in question.

And while someone of his nature, both on and off the field is impossible to replace, this evens out that loss.
