SANTA CLARA – Quarterback Colin Kaepernick said he believes his relationships with his 49ers teammates are great.
And one prominent member of the team’s offense said the struggling quarterback is not “on an island,” as stated Sunday on a national pregame show by Jay Glazer of FoxSports.
“We’re still together,” 49ers wide receiver Torrey Smith said. “It’s tough. It’s frustrating, but it’s not dividing the team at all. It’s not separating Kap. Kap isn’t on a damn island. We’re here together. We’re trying to win together.”

Coach Jim Tomsula said he called a meeting after the 49ers’ offense struggled in a loss to the Green Bay Packers on Oct. 4. Tomsula asked the players to continue to discuss their differences after he left the room.
Tight end Vernon Davis called out Kaepernick and left tackle Joe Staley jumped to Kaepernick’s defense, according to multiple sources and first reported by BayAreaSportsGuy.com. The exchange became heated and may have even gotten physical, sources told CSNBayArea.com.
Within the next couple of days, Davis, Staley and Kaepernick cleared the air, according to sources. Davis on Wednesday told CSNBayArea.com he would be available to speak later.

“I have a great relationship with Vernon,” Kaepernick said. “We’ve constantly had talks since I started playing. It’s something we both want to do. We both want to win. That’s where some of the frustrations come from. We’re trying to fix the losing streak we’d been on.”

Kaepernick said he believes the communication within the organization is constructive.
“I think we have great communication in this building,” Kaepernick said. “This team is working its hardest to fix the problems we do have. And make sure we’re ready to win games on Sundays.
“Reports don’t bother me. My relationship with my teammates is great. That’s all I’m worried about. What the perspective is outside the locker room really has nothing to do with me or this team.”
Kaepernick was asked if the observations from anonymous sources appears as if he is being set up to be the scapegoat for the 49ers’ 2-5 record.
“I really hope not,” he said. “For me, I give everything I can to this organization. I give everything I can to my teammates to try to help us win and try to help us be better moving forward.”
Kaepernick clarified that it’s not that he’s unsure whether there are those in the organization who do not support him.
“No, I’d say, I don’t think about that,” Kaepernick said. “What I think about is what I can do to help this team win and what I can to do make this team better.”
