Purdy senses new 49ers energy without lingering contract drama

Smith signed a 5-year, $40 million deal with the 49ers last March, and did not produce big numbers in Year 1.

He registered career-lows in catches (33), yards (663) and touchdowns (4).

"I have very high expectations for myself," Smith explained during Super Bowl week. "It's no secret that this year was very disappointing. But I didn't really have the ball as much as I'm used to either ... I feel like if I'm used more, and I'm incorporated into the game, then I'll do what I'm supposed to do."
