Tom Brady evaluates Jimmy Garoppolo's start with 49ers, deflects credit

After three and a half seasons under Tom Brady's tutelage, Jimmy Garoppolo is finally getting the chance to shine on his own.

Inserted as the starter four weeks ago, Garoppolo is 4-0 and that mark includes a surprising 44-33 win over Jacksonville, owners of the best defense in the NFL.

On Tuesday, Brady appeared on Boston radio station WEEI and was asked if the Patriots should have gotten a lot more for Garoppolo considering how well he's played. Brady deflected and didn't answer the question as it was proposed.

"He’s done a great job. You go in there and get the opportunity to play and win games, that is what we are all here for. It was good to see and good for them to beat Jacksonville, that certainly helped us. I am really happy for Jimmy and he’s worked really hard and It shows up when he goes out there and plays really well," Brady said.

When it was noted that Garoppolo sounds a lot like Brady on the field, the Patriots quarterback didn't want to accept the credit.

“It’s really a credit to him. You do what you can with the opportunities you get. I think it is great for any player and anyone who has been in our system to watch how the coaches prepare the players. There is obviously a high standard and high expectations for us every time we take the field. Anytime you’re in a winning environment, that definitely helps and I think guys really enjoy that. You take what you can and use that in other places if that is where you go. Like I said, what they are doing is a credit to them. I don’t think anyone should take credit for what those guys have accomplished," Brady said.

In his four starts with the 49ers, Garoppolo has completed 68.5 percent of his passes (98 of 143) for 1,250 yards, four touchdowns and three interceptions. He has a passer rating of 96.2.
