Terrell Owens to give Hall of Fame speech on induction day…just not in Canton

Former 49ers wide receiver Terrell Owens will have the stage to himself while the remainder of the Pro Football Hall of Fame class celebrates in Canton, Ohio.

Owens announced Tuesday that he will give his speech on Saturday, Aug. 4, at 3:17 p.m. (Central time) at McKenzie Arena on the campus of the University of Tennessee at Chattanooga, where Owens played football and basketball for the Mocs. He was elected into the Hall of Fame in his third year of eligibility.

“After giving it much thought, I have realized just how much I want to celebrate what will inevitably be the best weekend of my life at a place that means so much to me,” Owens said in a statement.

The remainder of the Hall of Fame Class of 2018 will take part in the induction ceremony in Canton on Aug. 4 from 7 to 10 p.m. (Eastern time).

“I’m proud to be a Moc, and I’m honored to be able to share this experience with my family, friends, teammates and fans at the place that provided me with an opportunity beyond high school and where I truly began to find myself as an athlete. Thank you to everyone who has supported my celebration decision. I look forward to seeing you all in Chattanooga.
