Superlatives from the 49ers' 8-1 start

SAN FRANCISCO -- The 49ers extended their win streak to seven games, the franchise's longest since 1997. The club went on to win 11 consecutive games and finished with a 13-3 record.The 49ers' 8-1 record is also their best record since 1997, which was Steve Mariucci's first year as head coach.Here are some other facts following the 49ers' 27-20 victory over the New York Giants on Sunday:
--Jim Harbaugh became the third coach in 49ers history to open his career with an 8-1 record. He joins Mariucci and George Seifert (1989).--Quarterback Alex Smith led another fourth-quarter comeback, as the 49ers opened the final period trailing 13-12. It was Smith's fourth fourth-quarter comeback this season. He is tied with the Giants' Eli Manning for the league lead this season.--When Smith hit Michael Crabtree for a two-point conversion, it marked the 49ers' first successful two-point try since Sept. 20, 2010 against the New Orleans Saints.--The 49ers have not allowed a rushing touchdown in 10 games, which is tied for third in franchise history. The team-record is 13 games, a streak which began in 1985 and ended in 1986.--The 49ers have not allowed a 100-yard rusher in 31 games. It's the fourth-longest streak in the NFL since the start of the 2000 season. The Baltimore Ravens (2006-09) went 39 games. The last time an opponent gained 100 yards against the 49ers was Nov. 22, 2009, when
--Green Bay's Ryan Grant was the last player to gain reach triple-digits against the 49ers' run defense. He had 129 yards on 21 attempts in the Packers' 30-24. However, there was a game last season against Kansas City when both Jamaal Charles and Thomas Jones nearly reached the century mark. Charles had 97 yards rushing on 12 carries, while Jones added 95 on 19 tries.
--The 49ers lead the NFL in run defense, allowing 73.2 rushing yards per game.--Kicker David Akers is 5-for-5 on kicks from beyond 50 yards this season. Cleveland's Phil Dawson (6-for-6) and Jacksonville's Josh Scobee (also 5-for-5) are the only other kickers with as many attempts who are perfect from 50-plus yards this season.--Akers is tied for first in the NFL with 23 field goals, and he ranks tied for second in the NFL with 91 points on the season. Akers is on pace to break Jerry Rice's franchise record of 138 points (1987).--Akers' surprise onside kick in the second quarter marked the first time the 49ers recovered an onside kick since Dec. 23, 2007. Delanie Walker, who recovered the kick Sunday, also came up with Joe Nedney's kick in 2007.--Walker tied his career high with six receptions. He had 69 receiving yards.--Vernon Davis' touchdown reception was the 33rd of his career, tying him with Brent Jones for most TD catches among tight ends in franchise history.--Davis has started 68 consecutive games, ranking as the third-longest active streak behind Atlanta's Tony Gonzalez (79) and Dallas' Jason Witten (76).--Cornerback Carlos Rogers recorded two interceptions in a game for the first time in his seven-year career. Rogers has a career-high five interceptions, tying him for the NFL lead with Kyle Arrington (New England), Eric Weddle (San Diego) and Charles Woodson (Green Bay).--Rogers' two interceptions marked the first time a 49ers player had two picks in the same game since Walt Harris, Nov. 25, 2007, against the Arizona Cardinals.--The 49ers broke up six passes, giving them 66 for the season. The 49ers rank No. 1 in the NFL in that department. The Houston Texans and Raiders have 58 passes defensed.--Defensive end Justin Smith has started 164 consecutive games, dating back to his rookie season in 2001. His streak ranks third among defensive players and fifth among all NFL players.--Long-snapper Brian Jennings has played in 185 consecutive games.
