SAN FRANCISCO -- Each of the 49ers' three phases had their typical performances Monday night in a 20-3 victory over the Pittsburgh Steelers. The defense forced four turnovers. The offense kept a handle on the football. And when the offense stalled, punter Andy Lee flipped field position or kicker David Akers booted a field goal. This was the kind of game the Steelers feared. And here was their post-game reactions . . ."I think we need to acknowledge that was 49er football tonight. We played the game on their terms in the manner of which they play when they play winning football. They created turnovers, they got turnovers, they got us with a few concept plays, they controlled the ball offensively. We didn't do enough. They played with the lead and played how they play."
--Coach Mike Tomlin"I was probably the best 49er tonight. We drive down the field opening drive and I don't get back deep enough on the drop. I have to try to get it in there and throw it as quick as I can because (receiver) Mike Wallace is downfield and rushed it and should have held onto it. The second one was one of those high balls that I made it too hard for (tight end) Heath (Miller) and he just tips it up into the air. The last one I was just trying to take a shot down the field. It's just frustrating on my part when you feel you let the guys down and you blow it."
--Quarterback Ben Roethlisberger"Their front seven is really good and they force turnovers. If you put the ball close to their secondary they're going to make a play. They don't drop them and they get after you. If you start getting one-dimensional, they start going after the quarterback. They're a good, young front."
--Roethlisberger"This is a pretty old place, or they didn't pay their light bill."
--Linebacker James Farrior on the power outage"They need to add some wax to the candle stick. It was weird, lights going out. I have never seen anything like this, but whatever. It would have been more memorable if we would have won. It was a strange night from the get-go. Lights go out then we get out there and the lights go out again. It was just a strange evening."
--Defensive lineman Brett Keisel"We got beat by a good football team, give them credit. I think if you replay our comments from Wednesday on how they win games, it would probably sum this game up. They play good defense solid in the red zone, and they force turnovers. We didn't help ourselves with some penalties, but it was their type of game they have played all year."
--Tight end Heath Miller"They just did a great job all around, in coverage and in pressure. They did a great job up front and they took care of their assignments today. And they took care of business."
--Running back Mewelde Moore"We were driving the ball, we just made some turnovers. When we drive down against a team like this, we can't turn the ball over. We have to keep holding onto the ball and we can't keep giving it to them especially in the red zone. It is just a matter of controlling the ball. We put ourselves in bad position today and we paid for it."
--Receiver Mike Wallace"We let them convert on the third down situations. We had them good in third down situations, and we allowed them to get out of that. They continued to march the ball down the field and that is what happened."
--Linebacker LaMarr Woodley
