Staley, Kolb exit with head injuries

GLENDALE, Ariz. -- Left tackle Joe Staley exited the 49ers' game Sunday against the Arizona Cardinals and was ruled out for the remainder of the day after sustaining a head injury in the first quarter.Cardinals quarterback Kevin Kolb also exited the game in the first quarter after a "blow to the head," the Cardinals reported. John Skelton replaced Kolb at quarterback.For the 49ers, Alex Boone replaced Staley at left tackle after the apparent concussion. Boone signed a four-year extension on Nov. 23 to remain with the team through the 2015 season.

Staley was slow in getting up after the 49ers' first offensive play of the game. Staley remained in the game, but again appeared injured on a play in which Kendall Hunter caught a 9-yard pass from Alex Smith on a fourth-and-5 play.Staley must receive clearance from an independent neurologist before he can be cleared to resume practice for the 49ers.
