SANTA CLARA -- Left tackle Joe Staley does not expect a quick resolution to the 49ers’ quarterback situation.
While most are focused on whether Colin Kaepernick will remain with the organization through the April 28-30 draft, Staley envisions the 49ers’ quarterback picture to remain unsettled through the offseason and, perhaps, into training camp.
“I think it’s not going to be something that’s going to be the next few weeks,” Staley said on Wednesday after a workout at the team's practice facility.

“New coaching staff. New system. We’ll see it play out the whole offseason. I knew whoever’s back there is going to be right guy for the job. And we’ll go from there. But I don’t think it’s going to be a couple of weeks. I think it’s going to be the whole offseason, as the time gets closer to playing games for real.”
If Kaepernick remains with the 49ers, he will compete with Blaine Gabbert for the starting job. It also remains a possibility the 49ers could use the No. 7 overall pick to select Cal quarterback Jared Goff or Carson Wentz of North Dakota State.
Kaepernick’s trade to the Denver Broncos remains a possibility. Kaepernick and his agents, Scott Smith and Jason Bernstein, were granted permission from the 49ers to seek a trade. But the Broncos have asked Kaepernick to take $12.4 million in cuts to his scheduled base salary the next two years, CSN Bay Area's Mindi Bach reported.
If the Broncos and Kaepernick agree on a new contract, sources indicate the pieces will fall into place for a 49ers trade with the Broncos.
