Source: Staley's contract conversion does not change cap

The 49ers' contract conversion of Pro Bowl left tackle Joe Staley's option bonus money to signing bonus does not impact Staley's scheduled pay for the 2016 season or the team's salary cap, a league source said Wednesday.

The move was described as "procedural." ESPN reported that $4 million on Staley’s scheduled $5.4 million base salary was converted to signing bonus.

The 49ers are approximately $50 million in space under the $155.27 million cap for the upcoming season.
