Former Cal and NFL star linebacker Hardy Nickerson interviewed with the 49ers for a spot on Chip Kelly’s coaching staff, a source told CSNBayArea.com on Tuesday.
Nickerson spent the past two seasons as the Tampa Bay Buccaneers linebackers coach, but he was not retained on Dirk Koetter’s staff. The NFL Network also reported the 49ers’ interview with Nickerson, who posted Monday on Twitter that he was flying from San Francisco to Atlanta.
Nickerson, 50, became a five-time Pro Bowl performer in the NFL after being selected in the fifth round of the 1987 draft out of Cal. He was selected to all of his Pro Bowls from 1993 to ‘99 while with the Buccaneers.
