Source: Matt Breida hopeful to play for 49ers next week after X-rays negative

SANTA CLARA -- 49ers running back Matt Breida left Sunday's loss to the Cardinals with an ankle injury, but a source said X-rays came back negative, and he's hopeful to play in the team's next game.

Breida will have an extra day to rest since the 49ers don't play until Monday, Oct. 15, against the Packers.

Breida exited Sunday's game in the first quarter, and Alfred Morris took over lead running back duties. Morris had 18 carries for 61 yards.

Wide receiver Pierre Garçon also sustained a left shoulder injury and briefly left Sunday's game, but he returned early in the second quarter and finished with five catches for 47 yards.

Marquise Goodwin, the 49ers’ other starting wide receiver, didn't suit up Sunday because of hamstring and thigh injuries.

The 49ers already have lost quarterback Jimmy Garoppolo and running back Jerick McKinnon for the season with ACL injuries, testing their offensive depth.
