SANTA CLARA – Quarterback Thad Lewis, who had a promising first night for the 49ers, is out for the season after sustaining a torn ACL in his left knee, a source confirmed to CSNBayArea.com.

Lewis, 28, spent time in the regular season with four different teams – Rams, Cleveland, Buffalo, Houston and Philadelphia – before signing with the 49ers as a free agent in March.

He joined Chip Kelly’s roster with the Eagles in September of last year but did not see any action in games. On Sunday, Lewis completed 12 of 21 passes for 97 yards in the Texans’ 24-13 victory.

Lewis limped to the locker room for evaluations near the end of the third quarter. Afterward, he told CSNBayArea.com that he believed the injury was minor and that he would “no doubt” be available to practice this week against the Denver Broncos.
