Source: 49ers hire ex-NFL player Miles Austin to coaching staff

Miles Austin on Thursday became the second former NFL wide receiver to join the 49ers’ coaching staff this week.

Austin will assume the role as 49ers offensive quality control coach, a league source confirmed to NBC Sports Bay Area. ESPN first reported the hiring.

Austin is filling the position vacated when T.C. McCartney left his entry-level coaching position with the 49ers to serve as quarterbacks coach on Vic Fangio’s staff with the Denver Broncos.
