Former New York Giants coach Tom Coughlin completed a lengthy interview Tuesday on the East Coast with 49ers general manager Trent Baalke, a league source told CSNBayArea.com.
Coughlin is one of six known candidates to replace Jim Tomsula, who was fired after a 5-11 season.

The other candidates who have interviewed for the 49ers' vacancy are former Philadelphia coach Chip Kelly, Cincinnati offensive coordinator Hue Jackson, Buffalo assistant head coach/running backs Anthony Lynn, Cleveland offensive coordinator John De Filippo and Tampa Bay offensive coordinator Dirk Koetter.
Coughlin, 69, spent 12 seasons as Giants head coach before resigning last week. The 49ers were required to receive permission from the Giants to interview him because he left with one year remaining on his contract.
