Source: 49ers, Boone yet to exchange contract proposals

San Francisco 49ers guard Alex Boone has played his final game before being eligible to hit the free-agent market in March.

Boone was selected as a Pro Bowl alternate and could have played in the NFL all-star Sunday in Honolulu. But because he finished the season on injured reserve, Boone will not play in the game. Boone sustained a minor knee injury late in the season, forcing him out of the lineup for the final three games.

Tampa Bay guard Logan Mankins was added to the Pro Bowl roster to replace Panthers guard Trai Turner, whose team advanced to Super Bowl 50 in Santa Clara.

Linebacker NaVorro Bowman and left tackle Joe Staley were the only 49ers selected to participate in the Pro Bowl this season.

Boone, 28, is scheduled to be an unrestricted free agent. The 49ers have not exchanged any contract proposals with Boone, a source told CSNBayArea.com. Boone skipped the 49ers’ offseason program the past two years in contract disputes.

Typically, those face-to-face talks occur at the NFL scouting combine in February. The 49ers have sole negotiating rights with Boone until other teams are allowed to enter into contract negotiations with free agents from other teams on March 7.
