CLEVELAND – During the offseason program and training camp, the 49ers viewed Marcus Martin as a guard.
Just before the start of the regular season, the team decided Joe Looney was not the answer at center. He was released. Martin slid over to center, where he struggled as the starter in the regular season. On Sunday, Martin made his 13th consecutive start, but moved back to guard, where he played most of the second half in place of injured Alex Boone.
Daniel Kilgore, who opened 2014 as the center before a fractured lower leg knocked him out of the lineup for more than a year, finally returned to reclaim his spot. Kilgore played 42 of the 49ers’ 56 offensive snaps after Martin played 14 snaps at center to open the game.

Rookie tight end Blake Bell played all 56 snaps, as he took over full time following injuries to Garrett Celek (injured reserve, ankle) and Vance McDonald (concussion). Newcomer Brian Leonhardt made his 49ers debut and played 14 snaps.

On defense, the 49ers used Corey Lemonier for 56 snaps and rookie Eli Harold for 29 plays in place of Aaron Lynch, who sat out with a concussion. Neither player was effective. Lemonier was credited with two tackles, while Harold recorded one.
