Rookie pass-rusher Aldon Smith recorded two sacks, a safety and a forced fumble in the 49ers' 25-19 victory over the Detroit Lions. He also was fined 15,000 for a roughing-the-passer penalty. Specifically, Smith struck Lions quarterback Matthew Stafford below the knee area, a league spokesman said Friday.
Also from the game, the NFL fined Lions tight end Brandon Pettigrew 7,500 for a chop block. The penalty was already costly, as it wiped out a pass play that would've given Detroit a first-and-goal situation from the 49ers' 8-yard line. Instead, it pushed the Lions back, and kicker Jason Hanson missed a 52-yard field goal before the half.Earlier this week, the NFL announced that neither Jim Harbaugh nor Lions coach Jim Schwartz would be fined for the skirmish that ensued after the Harbaugh's rather aggressive post-game handshake and Schwartz's pursuit and bump of Harbaugh.
Isaac Sopoaga was not fined for an unnecessary roughness penalty, as he was called for ripping the helmet off a Detroit player. And Lions defensive back Chris Houston was not fined for play in which he was penalized for a horse-collar tackle of running back Frank Gore.
