Most of the focus is on the NFL Scouting Combine but the 49ers made a little news outside the rookie showcase with the announcement they've signed long-snapper Ryan Pontbriand.
Brian Jennings is the team's longtime long-snapper. He was a Pro Bowler in 2011 and has a contract through 2014.
General manager Trent Baalke said the addition of Pontbriand has nothing to do with the team's feelings about Jennings. The 49ers also added a long-snapper shortly after the season with the signing of Kyle Nelson, who spent parts of the past two seasons on the practice squads of New Orleans and Kansas City.

REWIND: 49ers acquire competition for long-snapper Jennings
"Obviously, Brian made it to the Pro Bowl, and we're very happy with Brian," Baalke said Thursday at the NFL scouting combine. "Like every other position on our team -- and we've had this same conversation with Brian -- there's going to be competition at every position."How long we stay with three remains to be seen, but we're going to always put our players in a position where they're going to have to compete for their roles. I think that's a good thing. When you have competition, it makes everybody better."
