The 49ers and Seattle Seahawks completed their indirect swap of starting cornerbacks on Wednesday.

More than four weeks after the 49ers signed Richard Sherman to a three-year contract one day after Seattle released him, the Seahawks filled a roster spot with the signing of former 49ers cornerback Dontae Johnson.

Johnson, 26, started all 16 games for the 49ers last season but struggled down the stretch of the season. The club did not make an attempt to re-sign him as an unrestricted free agent.

In his four-year career with the 49ers, Johnson appeared in 63 of 64 possible games with 22 starts. Last season, he recorded a team-leading 77 tackles with one interception and seven passes defensed.

Johnson (6-foot-1, 200 pounds) came to the 49ers as a fourth-round draft pick in 2014 from North Carolina State.
