What Dez Bryant believes Deebo should do amid trade saga

All eyes are officially on the 2022 NFL Draft and whether or not the 49ers will trade Deebo Samuel, including those of All-Pro receiver Dez Bryant.

The former Dallas Cowboys wideout and current free agent was stopped by TMZ in Las Vegas on Wednesday night and shared some advice for San Francisco’s “wide back,” who has been at the center of recent trade talks after requesting to be dealt by the 49ers this offseason.

Spanning weeks, multiple social media posts and countless rumors, a conclusion to the chaotic Deebo debacle could come soon -- but Bryant believes the 26-year-old talent might be better off staying where he is.

“Deebo had a hell of a year, and the receiver market right now is extremely high, so I understand where he’s coming from,” Bryant told TMZ (h/t 49ers Webzone). “He wants to get his and he deserves his.

“But if we’re strictly talking about football, I think the 49ers [are] a great place for him. Kyle Shanahan, he is a genius. He knows how to get you the ball and a lot of organizations don’t know how to do that.”

Multiple teams have reportedly reached out to the 49ers to inquire about a potential trade for Samuel, offering first-round picks and more. John Lynch on Monday said he “can’t ever imagine wanting to move on from Deebo,” but then added that the team will listen to offers for just about anyone.

While a lucrative contract in a different city might seem appealing to Samuel, Bryant believes his talents will be best utilized in San Francisco under Shanahan. And if he were in the 49ers’ front office, dealing Samuel to another team simply wouldn’t be an option for Bryant.

“No, I’m not trading Deebo,” he told TMZ. “Pay him what he wants. Go ahead and pay him, because he deserves it.”
