NBC Bay Area reported the sinkhole had been caused by crews working on the area to repair a 12-inch recycled water pipe that had burst, causing a flood. The City of Santa Clara Water and Sewage Utilities said the pipe broke late Wednesday night.
Repairs are expected to conclude sometime on Friday, according to the city.
Even if the repairs take longer than expected, the 49ers head out on the road this weekend to take on the New Orleans Saints.
