Sherman believes 49ers' Jimmy G asking price too steep for Cowboys

NFL Twitter was abuzz Sunday night with talk of a potential new Jimmy Garoppolo destination after quarterback Dak Prescott exited the Dallas Cowboys’ 19-3 loss to the Tampa Bay Buccaneers with a hand injury.

The noise only got louder Monday when it was reported that Prescott would miss six to eight weeks with that ailment.

So, could Garoppolo be destined for America’s Team? Former 49ers cornerback Richard Sherman isn’t convinced.

“I’m sure they’ll call,” Sherman told NBC Sports Bay Area’s Carlos Ramirez in an interview that will air in Thursday's "49ers Talk" podcast. "I’m sure the price that [49ers general manager] John [Lynch] will ask for will be more than [the Cowboys are] willing to pay. I don’t think [Cowboys owner] Jerry [Jones] is willing to pay the price that he would have to pay to get Jimmy Garoppolo. And I’m not sure Jimmy Garoppolo would want to walk into that situation.

"The O-line is porous right now. The O-line for the Dallas Cowboys isn’t where it needs to be."

Dallas' offensive line allowed four sacks Sunday night.

"There’s a reason why Dak Prescott is going on injured reserve," Sherman said. "It’s because they didn’t protect him. There was pressure in his face all game long. I don’t know if Jimmy Garoppolo would want to step into that situation."

Although there's seemingly no end to talk of the 49ers either starting Garoppolo over Lance or trading away the veteran quarterback, Sherman believes San Francisco is content where it's at in the quarterback room.

"I think right now, they’re very happy with the situation they have," said Sherman, who's in his first year as an analyst on Amazon Prime's “Thursday Night Football” this season. "They are very happy with Jimmy as a backup option to Trey. He gives them a nice security and safety blanket. It helps them sleep at night. It would have to be an outstanding offer that improves the team now and in the future, but I don’t know what that offer would look like."
