The 49ers have lost their first big free agent of the offseason.
Guard Laken Tomlinson has agreed to sign a three-year, $40 million contract with the New York Jets, NFL Media's Mike Garafolo reported Monday.

Tomlinson reunites with Rober Saleh and Mike LaFleur in New York, and likely will slot into the right guard position with 2021 first-round pick Alijah Vera-Tucker manning the left guard spot.

It was always going to be hard for the 49ers to bring back Tomlinson, but that doesn't make the loss sting any less.
Tomlinson was a reliable member of the 49ers' offensive line for the past four seasons. He started every game since Week 2 of the 2017 season and is coming off his first Pro Bowl selection.
