Report: ‘Nothing imminent' on 49ers-Colts Jimmy G trade

The Jimmy Garoppolo trade talks appear to have cooled after the start of the NFL's open-negotiating window Monday.

The Pittsburgh Steelers removed themselves as a landing spot for Garoppolo on Monday when they agreed to a two-year contract with Mitchell Trubisky. NFL Media's Ian Rapoport reported Monday that the 49ers have had trade talks with the Indianapolis Colts about Garoppolo, but there doesn't appear to be a lot of traction for a deal at the moment.

"The Pittsburgh Steelers had talks with the 49ers on a potential Garoppolo deal," Rapoport said Monday on NFL Network. "Obviously with the signing of Mitchell Trubisky, that is not going to happen. The Indianapolis Colts also had talks with them on a potential deal. There is nothing imminent there. So now the 49ers, who have no rush to trade Jimmy Garoppolo, he has to get better from his shoulder anyway, and the Colts seem content on waiting. That situation appears to have hit a little bit of a pause."

With the Steelers off the board, the Colts, New Orleans Saints, Carolina Panthers and Seattle Seahawks are the only teams with a clear need at starting quarterback while teams like the Houston Texans and Cleveland Browns could potentially look to add a veteran to their QB mix.

The 49ers reportedly are asking for a "second-round pick and more" for Garoppolo, according to NFL Network's Tom Pelissero.

But with free agents Marcus Mariota and Jameis Winston still on the market and Deshaun Watson available for trade, it's difficult to see the 49ers having their asking price met for Garoppolo, especially coming off shoulder surgery.

On Monday, the 49ers lost free agents Laken Tomlinson and D.J. Jones but did add cornerback Charvarius Ward. Many expected the Garoppolo situation to be resolved by the start of the new league year, but it's starting to look like it could drag out quite a while longer as the amount of QB-needy teams dwindles.
