The 49ers on Tuesday reportedly signed quarterback Josh Rosen off the practice squad of the Tampa Bay Buccaneers.
Rosen, 23, can join the 49ers and be eligible to suit up for San Francisco’s Week 16 game against the Arizona Cardinals as the backup to starter C.J. Beathard.
Rosen’s signing was first reported by Field Yates and Adam Schefter of ESPN.

The 49ers needed another quarterback after Nick Mullens was diagnosed with an injury to the ulnar collateral ligament, which will likely require Tommy John surgery, coach Kyle Shanahan said on Tuesday.
Practice squad quarterback Josh Johnson was placed on the reserve/COVID-19 list.
Although the 49ers opened the practice window for Jimmy Garoppolo, he is not expected to suit up for either of the 49ers’ final two games as he recovers from a high-ankle sprain.
Rosen now joins his fourth NFL team in three seasons. He was the No. 10 overall pick of the Arizona Cardinals in 2018 out of UCLA. The 49ers selected right tackle Mike McGlinchey one spot ahead of Rosen in the 2018 draft.

After spending one season with Arizona, Rosen was traded to the Miami Dolphins when the Cardinals selected Kyler Murray with the No. 1 overall pick in 2019.
The Dolphins waived Rosen in September after they drafted Tua Tagovailoa at No. 5 overall this year. Rosen spent the first 15 weeks of the season on the Buccaneers’ practice squad.
Rosen has appeared in 20 NFL games, including 13 starts as a rookie with the Cardinals. He has completed 54.8 percent of his passes for 2,845 yards with 12 touchdowns and 19 interceptions.
